I am a Musician first, a person second, and all else is optional.
On self discovery:
Lifetime discovery it is. There're two places I can think of for your journey in discovering of self: listen to what others say about you - closely. Sometimes you may hear things that you don't want to hear, but it may very well be things that you haven't/couldn't/refused to see in you. Interact with others. You cannot possibly discover anything about yourself without exploring your environment. Anything you learn about the world helps shape and form your preferences, your beliefs, your attitude, all of which are merely an echo of your very essence, but they all provide clues to your identity. You do not know white until you know black; by the same token, your antithesises (yes, plural. I'm not referring to your archenemy. I'm referring those who stands in direct opposition to you in some aspects of life, so there can be many of them. ) can provide a sharp and contrasting definition.
Second place: listen to yourself. Write. Write about your day. Write about what's on your mind. Just write, let all and any of the the thoughts and ideas surface on your mind, and flow through your pens. The more honestly you write, the better. Look back and reflect on what you've written, that's a good way to practice listening and being receptive to the clues that may solve a few mysteries about your own identity. No one single thought or belief, trait, merits or faults defines you. See yourself wholly and don't concentrate on any particular thing exclusively. The most important thing is to be honest with what you know. The more honest you are, the faster the progress you will make.
